Through clinical studies, doctors find new and better ways to prevent, detect, diagnose, control and treat illnesses. A clinical research study is undertaken through volunteers who would like to participate in advancing medicine.

Migraines

Did you know women are more than twice as likely to suffer from migraines than men? Most suffers experience migraine attacks once or twice a month but over 4 million have chronic daily attacks at least 15 days a month.

Even though the causes of migraines are not understood completely, it is believed that both genetics and environmental factors are part of the equation. Below is a list of some things that may be triggers for some people:

  • Hormone Changes: Fluctuations in estrogen levels can sometimes be a cause. These tend to happen before or during menstrual periods, pregnancy and even menopause.
  • Stress: Americans live with many stress factors at both home and work. These can sometimes have an effect.
  • Sleep Changes: A lack of sleep and too much sleep can both be a cause. Even jet lag has similar effects, with respect to getting migraines.
  • Physical Activities: Intense physical activity that leads to great physical exertion can have an effect, as well.
  • Oral Consumption: Food, beverages, and even medication can have an effect on people.
  • Stimulated Senses: Bright lights, a glaring sun, strong perfumes, fumes from paints and paint thinners, second-hand smoke and even loud noises can all have an effect.

Depression

Depression affects people from all walks of life. Whether someone is a student, professional, blue collar, white collar, or anything in between, depression has an affect on many. With a worldwide pandemic, people shut up in their homes and isolated from friends and family, rates for depression have risen dramatically.

Currently, there are over 17 million adults that are living with Major Depression Disorder in the US. While there are many treatment options available, these don’t always work.

Clinical research trials are a way for those who don’t have any options to gain access to new treatment opportunities. Find out more about our clinical research trials by clicking on our current studies page.
